Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia, USA and was the 1st black (Negro) Major League Baseball player of modern era. He made his Major League Baseball debut in the month of April 15, 1947 for the Brooklyn Dodgers as a second baseman and played his last game on October 10, 1956 for the Brooklyn Dodgers. In the year 1947, Robinson ruined the baseball color boundary, when he made his debut for Brooklyn Dodgers.
He was the first Negro to play in the MLB since 1880s. He was involved in bringing an end of ethnic separation in professional baseball, which had transferred Negro players to the Negro Leagues for 6 decades. The pattern of his temperament and absolute talent challenged the conventional basis of separation, which then cleared lots of other things of American life, and contributed Civil Rights Movement.
Apart from his civilizing impact, Jackie Robinson had brilliant career record. Over 10 seasons, he played in 6 World Series and contributed to the Dodgers in the World Championship in the year 1955. From the year 1949 to 1954, he got selected in All-Star games consecutively. In the year 1947, he won the inaugural Rookie of the Year Award and also won the National League MVP award in the year 1949 (first black player). In the year 1962, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. MLB took off his uniform number forty two, across all major league teams in the year 1997.
Jackie Robinson was well known for his pursuits outside the baseball diamond. In MLB he was 1st Negro TV analyst and was the 1st black (Negro) VP (Vice-President) of a major American corporation. He helped to establish the Freedom National Bank in Harlem, New York in the year 1960. In respect of his success on and off the field, Robinson was posthumously honored as the Presidential Medal of Freedom and Congressional Gold Medal.
