It’s good to see the minor leagues back in action. Expect lots of great coverage of the Yankees farm system in 2008 from guys like Chad Jennings who covers the Triple-A team for The Times-Tribune in Scranton/W-B and Mike Ashmore who does an excellent job down in Trenton at the Double-A level. I will of course due a daily update and link to both of their blogs with any breaking news.

| Jose Veras P: 1 IP, 0ER, 0BB, 1 K |
Jennings has a live-blog here. Among the highlights: Gardner’s speed is game changing. In the bottom of the fifth he beat out a dp ball, stole second, then scored a bloop single by Christian. He also had a stand-up triple in the eighth. Gardner will be up with the club before the summer.
Jennings was impressed with Igawa whom he said “looked great”. Hey, pitch six innings of no-hit ball with 7 Ks and 0 walks, I would hope he didn’t look mediocre. He was yanked in the sixth after 60 pitches because his limit was 70. Reliever Jose Veras touched 94 on the radar.

Ashmore has a live blog of the game here. He wasn’t actually at the game but he did do in-game updates. Nice work Mike! Also, check out Mike’s 2008 Trenton Thunder season preview here.
Also, via Mike, a roster move was made:
Kevin Russo was moved to the GCL.
Carlos Mendoza was transferred to Trenton.
Brett Smitt has been added to the DL.
Chase Wright had a nice outing. Three hits, no walks and four Ks through six looks solid. No real offense to speak of, but you gotta like the outfield of Jackson, Tabata and Curtis. Now that’s some talent.

Not a whole lot of offense in this game either as Tampa pounded out only four hits.
Mark Melancon was warming in the bullpen with the intent of coming in but he never made it to the mound. Update to come.

Nice game from Abe Almonte. Deliin Betances must have been dealin’ as he struck out eight and gave up only three hits. Nice line from DeLaRosa as well except for the the two walks.
