Peter Abraham tells us that Morgan Ensberg has been added to the 40-man roster, a move that gets him closer to a place on the opening day roster. Carl Pavano has been moved to the 60-day DL to make room for Ensberg.

All in all it’s a good move. Ensberg, a career .284 hitter against lefties, will be a nice addition to the Yankees bench over the course of the season. If he can stay healthy, he’ll provide a nice right-handed bat in a lefty-loaded lineup.

Ensberg described the move as “great, great news” and said his next order of business was changing his number from 21 (Paul O’Neill’s old number) to #14, currently worn by Wilson Betemit. According to Jack Curry, however, Betemit turned down Ensberg’s offer of $5,000 for the jersey.
