From ESPN.com via 38bitches.com:
“If he doesn’t do that then there aren’t many options as a fan for me other than to believe his career 192 wins and three Cy Youngs he won prior to 1997 were the end,” Schilling wrote Wednesday in his blog, 38pitches.com. “From that point on the numbers were attained through using [performance-enhancing drugs]. Just like I stated about Jose [Canseco], if that is the case with Roger, the four Cy Youngs should go to the rightful winners, and the numbers should go away if he cannot refute the accusations.”
“Can you separate what Barry is accused of from what Roger is accused of?” Schilling said. “If … both of these men end up being caught, what does that say about this game, us as athletes and the future of the sport and our place in it? The greatest pitcher and greatest hitter of all time are currently both being implicated, one is being prosecuted, for events surrounding and involving the use of performance enhancing drugs. That [stinks]. … The sport needs fixing.”
A few thoughts-
1. Redistributing awards would be a waste of time. How would that actually prevent players from using in the future, Curt? Shouldn’t MLB and the MLBPA be looking into solutions to stop the use of steroids/HGH instead of fighting over whether a player gets to keep an award or not? Come on man, you can’t be that short-sighted.
2. When you say the numbers should “go away”, what should happen to the games in which those numbers were present in? Should we go back and change the outcome of every game, and for that matter, every season in which Clemens and Bonds played in if they are found to be guilty? How would you even begin to do that?
3. 3,200 words in your blog entry? Are things not going as well at 38studios.com as you had hoped? Do you have too much time on your hands? Shouldn’t you be dieting, working out or doing something constructive? I know the 200 fans that actually read your blog cling to every word you press, but even they had trouble reading your long-winded editorial. You’re writing a blog Curt, not for the Op-Ed page of the Wall Street Journal.
Might you grace us with your presence if asked before Congress again?
