Looks like Hank is still dreaming of Santana in pinstripes:
“It’s up to Minnesota what they want to do and I assume they’re still thinking about trading him,” Steinbrenner said, according to the Daily News. “As far as what I’m going to do, I don’t know. There’s been a couple of brief calls. The door’s not closed.
“I’m still thinking about it.”
How about that $140 million over 7 years that the CY Young lefty supposedly wants:
“The Twins haven’t told us that [about the $140 million], no,” Steinbrenner said, according to the Daily News. “We haven’t talked to his agent directly, either. We can’t. And Minnesota’s not going to call us and tell us.”
I hope the Yankees noticed how many parts the A’s received from the Diamondbacks for Dan Haren. Granted, he’s much cheaper than Santana will be, but once Haren was moved for six prospects, the price for Santana services went up .
The Yankees are saying that if they make a move for Santana, they’ll have to reduce payroll first by moving Hideki Matsui who has a no-trade clause. Tough for me to believe that his contract would get in the way of a deal if the price was right. But what will it take now? Hughes, Kennedy and then some?
Forget it.
